Politics States - Gujarat Modi sworn in Gujarat CM for third time

Roy Chowdhury Our Bureau Ahmedabad, Dec. 25 Mr Narendra Modi, 57, on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a third time since October 2001, two days after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party scored a significant victory winning 117 Assembly seats. The Council of Ministers in the new Government is expected to take oath in the next few days. The Governor, Mr Naval Kishore Sharma, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Modi at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in the heart of the city. A large number of leaders belonging to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were present on the occasion. They included former Vice-President Mr B.S. Shekhawat, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mr L.K. Advani, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, the BJP President, Mr Rajnath Singh, the NDA Convenor, Mr George Fernandes, the Shiv Sena leader Mr Manohar Joshi, BJP-ruled State Chief Ministers Ms Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan), Dr Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh), Maj-Gen B.C. Khanduri (Uttarakhand) and Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh). Mr Modiwas re-elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party at a meeting of the newly elected MLAs in Gandhinagar on Monday.
