Marine recruitment agency opens in Kolkata

Selandia Marine Services, a marine recruitment and crew management agency, has opened its office in Kolkata to recruit local people to meet the growing needs of seafarers and officers in the maritime sector, according to company sources.

The company has plans to bring more ships under its fold.

Right now, the company has 130 vessels of different types such as very large crude carriers, chemical tankers and gas carriers, both LPG and LNG. The plan is to acquire another 56 ships in 2008, including bulk carriers, tankers and gas carriers.

The demand for officers, ratings and trainees therefore, will increase substantially, it is felt.
