Plea to ensure uninterrupted supply of wax

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Dec 26 The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has sought uninterrupted supply of wax, if necessary, even by importing wax to ensure its availability as the demand both for the match industry and candles in household consumption is on the rise in the context of the severity of power cut in the State.

In a letter addressed to the Union Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora, the Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, has pointed out that the demand for wax has been going up in the context of the increasing severity of power cut in the State. Uninterrupted supply of type II and type III variety of wax is necessary for match industry to meet the increasing export demand. Power cuts curtail production of wax and as a result, the price is rising, he said.

Under the circumstances, the Ministry must ensure that Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd produces adequate type II and type III wax varieties and distribute them, he said. Further, the company must be allowed to import wax, if necessary, to help the match industry overcome closure threat. The chamber has also sought the support of the Tamil Nadu Government in this issue.
