Gas conversion

Car sales are booming to reflect the life-styles of people in the upper middle-class and above, and are a sign of booming economic growth. Hindustan Motors, which makes the popular workhorse Ambassador cars, is going to add LPG /CNG versions to its range.

It is hoped this move is followed by other manufacturers to start greening the transport sector with help from oil marketing companies, which are expected to open CNG outlets. In fact, the leap of technology to next-generation concepts such as electric vehicles and subsequently to hybrids should also not lag behind.

Unless manufacturers, consumers and the government work in cohesion, the country will add to pollution, rather than contain it. Companies have to be proactive in this matter in an environment where the government is too liberal to impose regulations upon them.
