New light: An Illuminated exterior of one of Chennai’s premier hotels - Accord Metropolitan. — Our Bureau Chennai, Dec. 30 Ten. Nine. Eight… The countdown has begun. It’s party time again — New Year eve. Chennai always plays a perfect host for the party. Almost all hotels in the city, particularly premier hotels, are brightly illuminated to celebrate the event. “Enjoy the sizzling Brazilian dancer who will set the floor on fire. Our DJ will keep the party rocking,” invites Le Royal Meridien. Snacks and drinks will be served throughout the evening and a buffet spread will be available for dinner. Tickets are priced at Rs 6,499 per couple. In addition, the hotel also offers special gourmet spread and drinks at its restaurants, bar and discotheque — Flame Le Club. Parisian dancersTaj Coromandel has brought Parisian dancers apart from celebrity DJs including Sharon Amir and Ashok. “Extending the celebrations to the next year, Matchpoint will have a special New Year’s champagne brunch on January 1,” says a release. Prego, the Italian restaurant at the hotel, will feature an exciting six-course menu with unlimited champagne. Taj Connemara’s Verandah will feature DJ Karl in the evening. There will be special buffet spread of Italian and Anglo-Indian and wine at the stroke of midnight. There will also be a live performance by a 22-piece orchestra band at the Raintree, which would also offer a Chettinad buffet with premium spirits. Accord Metropolitan, another 5-star hotel, has lined up some special events. Indian Idol fame Harish Moyal and Bollywood playback singer Rachna Chopra will perform live at Crystal. The event, inclusive of imported and Indian beverages, is priced at Rs 5,999 per couple. Zodiac, the night club at Accord Metropolitan, has roped in DJ Moses from Mumbai and DJ Raven from Chennai to lock their talent at the mixer boards, and will offer a variety of beverages and food. That apart, the hotel’s roof-top restaurant — Pergola (on the 15th floor) — will have Russian singer Anna Lazareva performing Russian folk and English numbers. Global delicacies“Our chefs would create a lavish buffet which includes exotic delicacies from around the world,” asserts Mr Sharad Puri, General Manger, Trident Hilton. The special buffet, priced at Rs 1,950 (with taxes), includes a free flow of Australian and Indian wines. Mr Peter Menzies and his partner will be serenading with some old classics. The hotel recently opened a seafood specialty restaurant, Samudra, where it offers a special menu for dinner at Rs 1,500. Flamenco fusionThe Park also has made some elaborate arrangements to usher in the New Year. “New Years here will be a fusion of Flamenco dancers and the exciting entertainment,” says the hotel. A gourmet spread, unlimited beverages, a rocking DJ Nezze and VJ Paloma, await guests. It charges Rs 8,555 per couple, Rs 5,999 per stag and Rs 4,999 per single lady for entry to the ground floor encompassing Lotus and 601.
