HCV sales growth seen

Pratim Ranjan Bose

If original equipment (OE) demand is of any significance, HCV sales seem to be on a major growth path once again in 2008.

Mr Paras Chowdhury of Ceat Ltd and Mr A.S. Mehta of JK Tyre confirmed early signals from truck/bus manufacturers projecting higher off-take of tyres in January-March 2008 quarter. OE consumption in heavy commercial sector witnessed 10-15 per cent drop during April-December 2007.

“Early signals suggest there is strong rebound in OE demand in HCV segment,” says Mr Chowdhury. Tyre makers witnessed 10-15 per cent drop in OE consumption in HCV and MCV segment during April-November 2007.

OE sales constitute roughly 30 per cent of total tyre sales in this segment.
