‘ A coming out year for retail’

Our Bureau

Chennai, Dec. 31 On the year gone by for the retail industry

The year gone by was a “coming out” year for the retailing industry. Many “more” players joined the industry, and announced plans. Consumers, farmers and employees benefited, and there was some resistance – but it is inevitable when change happens.

On milestones for Aditya Birla Retail

The acquisition of Trinethra, start-up and build-out of our business, roll-out of the first “More” store in Pune and subsequently in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and shortly in Kolkata, Jaipur, Punjab. Re-branding of all the Trinetra/Fabmall stores in the South.

On expectations for the industry in 2008

I see continued growth for the industry. Broadbasing in terms of players, formats and increasing acceptance from consumers

On a wishlist for the industry

Lower real estate prices, more sane competition, better infrastructure, better vendor performance!
