What about roads?

Tata’s Rs I-lakh car will be on roads by mid-2008. With its attractive price, this will be a sought-after vehicle by lakhs of middle-class families in preference over two-wheelers.

More than 1.5 million cars are added annually on Indian roads, and the launch of the Tata car may see a massive increase in this number, perhaps up to 2.5 lakh vehicles per year, because of its affordability.

But all the additional traffic will surely raise questions on better roads, bridges, flyovers, etc. In view of serious congestion and accidents due to undependability of roads and bridges, this issue must get priority in infrastructure projects.
