Non-conventional Energy States - Tamil Nadu Stress on renewable energy sources Our Bureau Tiruchi, Jan 1 While optimising energy utilisation and avoiding wastages, there is a necessity to take a quantum leap in producing energy from renewable sources, the former Executive Director and Head, ONGC, Dehradun, Mr Kuldeep Chandra, has said. This should be achieved in a mission mode with clear goals backed by time framed activity profiles with estimates of costs involved. The 11th Plan period should be devoted for preparatory work involving educating people for lifestyle changes, and encouraging investors to provide monetary resources and legislators to bring out appropriate laws. By the 15th Plan period, India should aim at 50 per cent power from renewable energy sources and join efforts in cosmic solar energy production, Mr Kuldeep said inaugurating the national conference on ‘Energy Efficiency: The Environmental Solution (EEES’07)’ organised by the Centre for Energy and Environmental Science and Technology (CEESAT), National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, recently. Citing successful experiments in Germany, Mr Kuldeep said solar energy would be quite competitive to conventional environmentally incompatible technologies. Replacement of producible reserves through exploratory effort is getting difficult due to shrinking oil and gas fields. Oil companies, to remain in the business of energy, have begun making substantial investments in non-conventional hydrocarbon resources and are also attempting underground coal gasification. The companies have pioneered substantial work in the field of renewable resources of energy and fuel cells, he said. More Stories on : Non-conventional Energy | Tamil Nadu
