The Goa University, with focus on research and tie-ups with institutions, is a premier centre of higher education.

Our Bureau

Armed with excellent facilities for research, and its campus now connected through a Wi-Fi network, the Goa University has become the premier centre of higher education in the State. Located on the scenic Taleigao plateau on the outskirts of the capital city of Panaji, the University is attracting students from across the world.

The Goa University was established in 1985 incorporating the then existing Post Graduate Centre for Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay. Prof. Dileep Deobagkar of the University of Pune recently took over as the Vice-Chancellor of Goa University. The 24 post-graduate (PG) departments and two Centres of Studies under Goa University offer academic programmes leading to masters and Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines. The University also offers PG Diploma programmes in select disciplines. The masters’ programme in Biotechnology has been supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) since the inception of the course. An M. A. course in Portuguese language has been reintroduced from the academic year 2006-07. In 2001, the University was accredited with four-star rating on a five-point scale by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).

The University has a human resource development programme in association with the Indian Navy. Various programmes have been established with different national institutes and research centres such as NIO (National Institute of Oceanography), NCAOR (National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science). The University has also, in its outreach programme, established links with NGOs such as Western Ghats Kokum Foundation and corporate groups such as Sesa Goa. Several MoUs with foreign academic institutions have been signed for academic collaborations. The University has a central library which receives e-journals regularly as part of the Goa University-UGC-ERNET-MoU.
