Ambulance Access launches Kerala operations

Our Bureau

Kochi, Jan. 2 Ambulance Access for All Foundation (AAA) has launched its ambulance service – “Dial 1298 for Ambulance” in Kerala.

In the first phase, the 1298 Ambulance service will be available in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts with seven advanced life support / ICU ambulances and 52 basic life support ambulances as part of the 1298 network.

1298 Ambulance service is accessible to any person, 24 hours 7 days a week, anywhere in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts by dialling a four digit number ‘1298’ from any landline or mobile telephone.

AAA is a non-profit organisation set up by a group of young professionals with the primary objective of rolling out a nationwide network (starting with Mumbai) of life support ambulance service accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere through an easy to remember four digit telephone number 1298.

The project is setup in association with London Ambulance Service, a UK Government Agency.

In Kerala, AAA is bringing in a set of model advanced/basic life support ambulances and is building on the existing ambulance infrastructure by including the existing ambulance service providers under the 1298 network. For the existing ambulance service providers, AAA has provided basic life support training for the staff on the ambulance. Going forward AAA will also support and guide the existing service providers in upgrading their basic ambulance to world standards.

Its Kerala project is supported by: the Confederation of Indian Industry, Eastern, GTN Group, Mather, Federal Bank, Kalliyath Group, London Ambulance Service, Life Supporters Institute of Health Science, Lifeline Foundation, Society for Emergency Medicine in India, Apollo Tyres Ltd, Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, BSNL, Reliance. The project, “Dial 1298 for Ambulance” was launched first in Mumbai in May 2005. AAA is currently operating 48 advanced/basic life support ambulances. It has completed more than 75,000 patient trips in Mumbai.
