Synopsis to develop low-cost solutions

Ambar Singh Roy

Kolkata, Jan. 2 The Indian operations of electronic design automation (EDA) major Synopsis Inc of the US will focus on developing software tools that will enable chip designers to meet the price expectations of customers in the region.

According to Dr Pradip K. Dutta, Corporate Vice-President & Managing Director of Synopsis (India), the consumer electronics market in countries such as India and China is growing at a fast pace. Clients in the EDA space are looking at products that consume less power. “Innovation in design, manufacturing and distribution is going to be the business model of the future”, he said.

Sysnopsis Inc’s largest engineering site outside of North America is in India. While the company currently has its operations in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Noida and employs 650 people, its headcount is expected to go up to 800 within the next two years. “EDA is a niche area and India provides the talent pool that is required in this domain”, he said.

Dr Dutta said EDA is a $5-billion industry and is poised to grow rapidly given the growth in the consumer electronics industry and wireless applications. Mr Dutta added.
