Kochi, Jan 3 Kerala’s first private sector container freight station (CFS) with end-to-end facilities for stuffing, de-stuffing and in-house customs clearance set up by the Kalamassery-based Falcon Group at Eloor near Kochi has become fully operational.

The Rs 25-crore CFS, set up adjacent to the existing Integrated Services Complex of the Falcon Group, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achutha- nandan, in November 2007.

The Customs Department has already commenced in-house clearance of transhipment containers at the CFS. A separate Customs unit with the necessary staff has started functioning at the CFS.

“The CFS has been set up in the backdrop of Kochi’s emergence as a major international maritime hub with work on the ambitious Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) already under way”, Mr N. A. Mohammed Kutty, Managing Director of Falcon Group, said.

The facility has a total operational area of 10.24 acres for stacking containers and cargo. It has 50,000 sq ft of bonded warehousing facility. This will be increased to 1.5 lakh sq ft in the next six months.

The facility is in close proximity to the proposed road and rail connectivity to the Vallarpadam terminal. He said that the Group is expecting a minimum annual turnover of Rs 10 crore. Initially, it expects to handle 1,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) per month. Once the ICTT at Vallarpadam becomes operational, the turnover and volume areexpected to go up manifold, he added.
