Hyderabad, Jan. 3 Dr Syed Mahmood Naqvi, former Acting Director, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), has been selected for the National Mineral Award for Excellence-2006 in the field of Geosciences.

The award recognises his contributions in the field of precambrian geology, geochemistry and crustal evolution. A senior scientist of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) at present, Dr Naqvi has worked on the rocks older than 2,500 million years for the past 43 years to come up with interesting findings on the evolution of the earth’s early stages.

His book on Precambrian Geology of India is most cited from India. He has also authored Geology and Evolution of Indian Plate recently, according to a press release from NGRI.
