PM promises to consider IIM for Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Jan. 3 The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has promised to take all steps needed for developing Visakhapatnam into a modern metropolis between Kolkata and Chennai on the east coast.
The Prime Minister was here on Thursday to inaugurate the Indian Science Congress.
He was all praise for the Chief Minister for concentrating on irrigation projects. In particular, he said, the efforts of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government to provide loans to rural women at 3 per cent interest was commendable. It would lead to large-scale employment generation and women empowerment.
On the representation made by Mr N. Janardhana Reddy, the member of the Lok Sabha from Vizag, the Prime Minister said the demand for setting up an Indian Institute of Management here was a legitimate one and he would discuss the issue with Mr Arjun Singh, Union Human Resources Minister, after reaching New Delhi.
Dr Manmohan Singh said the UPA Government would take all possible steps to assist the growth of the public sector units in Visakhapatnam. He added that the Visakhapatnam airport would soon become a 24-hour one, with operation of night flights.
