Outlook Industry & Economy - Non-conventional Energy Hyundai hopes alternate fuel models to boost sales Priyanka Vyas New Delhi, Jan. 3 Banking on the wider availability of alternate fuels, Hyundai Motors India, which has a slew of launches planned on this platform, said that it was looking at 15-20 per cent increase in sales from such vehicles. “We expect 15-20 per cent incremental sales over and above what we are already selling to come from our range of CNG and LPG vehicles, considering the wider availability of LPG and rising petrol prices,” said Mr Arvind Saxena, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors India. He said that the company was launching a LPG variant of Santro, Getz and Accent over the coming few months. He said that these would be company fitted models which would be executed in collaboration with a Korean company. Premium car plannedHyundai Motors, which has currently around 17 per cent market share in the country, said that with its newly launched i10 it was looking at grabbing 20 per cent of the domestic market share. It is also considering launching a premium car HD on the lines of Elantra to strengthen its presence in the premium segment. “We are evaluating the option of introducing a premium car by the code name HD that is similar to Elantra in the domestic market,” said Mr Saxena, adding that the company would also be showcasing it at the forthcoming Auto Expo. New plantThe company, which has been consolidating its space primarily in the compact car segment, said that with the new plant being operational this month, it expected sales in the domestic market to increase. Hyundai clocked a growth of 18 per cent during December in the domestic market. This year, the company’s domestic capacity would also increase from 2 lakh units to 2.5 lakh units. With regard to exports, Hyundai plans to export 250,000 units overseas in about 90 countries with manufacturing commencing at its second plant. This includes Santro, Getz, Accent and i10. After the first global launch of i10 from India, Mr Saxena said that the company was gearing up for its next global car, i20 that would be rolled out from India by the end of this year or early next year.
