Setting store by echocardiography

Hyderabad, Jan. 4

Echocardiography is a common diagnostic method used by cardiologists around the world to get a quick assessment of the functioning of the heart.

But doctors at the Hyderabad-based Care Hospitals have found a better use for this non-invasive method using the machines available now and get more and important information as well.

“If you read the findings carefully, it can also be used to identify blockages of the main artery that supplies blood to the heart,” said Dr A.V. Anjaneyulu, a senior cardiologist. This would mean a lot of savings for cardiac patients. Most of them need to undergo angiograms or CT-angio, spending about Rs 10,000 or more. “A good number of cases can be detected using this simple method. It saves 90 per cent of costs for patients,” he said.

Deploying sounding waves to reconstruct the functioning of the heart, the non-invasive tool is generally used for knowing the size and shape of the heart. It also helps in evaluation of the heart valves and pattern of blood flows.
