Employment States - Andhra Pradesh Employment growth in AP put at 3.6% Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 4 Employment growth in the State during the last four years at 3.6 per cent is more than the population growth rate estimated at 1.3 per cent during the corresponding period. However, there continues to be mismatch between the skills required and the employable skills available in the population due to boom in services sector jobs, particularly information technology, telecom and financial services, according to the State Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah. Addressing a press conference here today on Draft Socio Economic Development Report here, Mr Rosaiah said that the share of agriculture to the State Gross Domestic Product is coming down in all States. As per estimates, while the overall contribution of agriculture to GDP in India is at 18 per cent, in the case of this State it is 22 per cent. Referring to suicides, the State said that the suicides level has drastically come down due to aggressive, proactive and farmer friendly policies of the Government. The draft report is undergoing the process of broad academic consultations and the Government expects to release the report before the end of the current fiscal. Welfare measuresDue to various welfare measures of the State such as Rs 2 a kg rice, large number of boarders and providing food to them along with other welfare measures, the State is pegged as one of the cheapest in the country from a living perspective. Referring to urbanisation in the State which is similar to trends in the country, the report states that the process of urbanisation was irreversible. While urban growth is driven by industries and service sectors, the rural growth is powered primarily by agriculture and related service sector. The focus, therefore, is on improving crop yield.
