Outlook AMW firming up plans to enter into LCV segment
Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 4 After a series of new players entering into the light commercial vehicles (LCVs) space, Asia MotorWorks Ltd (AMW) is firming up its plans to foray into the segment by showcasing its 1.5-3 tonne vehicle at the Auto Expo next week. “Our focus is currently the heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) segment. But we are gauging the market response in the LCVs segment,” said Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, Managing Director and CEO. When asked if the company would enter the LCVs segment in collaboration with a joint venture partner, Mr Bhuwalka said, “It would be on our own.” He, however, declined to give any time frame for venturing into the segment. He also said that if at all the company enters the segment, it would be a greenfield investment. Regarding AMW’s likely focus area in the LCVs segment, Mr Bhuwalka said, “If the LCVs market, which ranges from 1.5 tonne to 11 tonne is growing at 1,50,000 units, then targeting the whole market is going to be our strategy.” The company that currently has 25 tonne, 49 and 40 tonne trucks in its portfolio, has launched a 31-tonner truck priced at Rs 17 lakh which can support higher payload. Having commenced operations just one and a half years ago, AMW is currently selling about 500 trucks a month and expects to close fiscal 2007-08 at 6,000 units.
