Events Chhabria to showcase Ambierod at Auto Expo Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 5 Indians will soon see a super luxury car that would be a fusion of the Ambassador, the iconic brand redolent of India’s pre-liberalisation days, and marques like the Rolls Royce or Maybach. The super luxury car, Ambierod, inspired by the Ambassador, is an endeavour to transform this age old brand into a car that is much ahead of the contemporary times. Created by renowned designer Mr Dilip Chhabria, the car is being unveiled at the Auto Expo next week and will be priced at around Rs 4 crore. FeaturesThe car, which took 50,000 man hours to develop, would be a three-seater with gull wing doors, three LCD TV screens (varying from 10 inches to 19 inches) coupled with a V12 engine. “The Ambassador is an iconic brand reminding us of everything that was good and bad about India in those days. This is an attempt to evolve the Ambassador into a car that it can look 50 years from now,” Mr Chhabria said. Mr Chhabria, who is working with Indian and foreign car makers, has already got an order for Ambierod and expects to sell 10 cars in a year’s time. He expects the car to be the aspiration of many British Indians and other NRIs. His company, Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt Ltd, accrues 50 per cent revenues from original equipment manufacturers and the remaining from individuals who get their cars customised by him. The company is also awaiting customer response for another sports car designed by it and priced at Rs 25 lakh before commencing its production. “If we find that we can sell annually 300 of our sports car that is being showcased at the Auto Expo, we may start manufacturing such luxury cars on our own for the domestic market and to export to countries like the UK or Germany,” he said.
