Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan 6 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the University of Cambridge have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work towards fostering innovation and growth, besides forging a closer link between the academia and industry.

Under the MoU, the two partners will jointly develop and implement collaborative opportunities for their mutual benefit in the areas of manufacturing innovation, entrepreneurial learning and sustainable development.

Through this agreement, CII is seeking to urge the Indian industry to create an environment that would foster innovation and entrepreneurship. To this end, CII has led missions of senior members from the industry to Cambridge.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, past President, CII and Chairman of Hero Corporate Services Ltd said, “We would like to play the role of facilitator in promoting growth and innovation. This partnership with Cambridge will be of great advantage to both.”

Mr Sunil Sinha, CEO of Total Quality Management (TQM) Tata, who was a member of the mission to Cambridge said, “Before we visited Cambridge, we had this impression that innovation had to be orchestrated. After our visit, we understood that there is no one single factor that precipitates innovation. Cambridge is a phenomenon with high quality research talent and an ambience that stimulates cross learning.”

On the importance of linking up the Cambridge network to the rest of the world, Prof Alison Richard, Vice Chancellor, University of Cambridge said, “We are proud of our innovation ecosystem and are working towards connecting this system to the world.”
