Sattur chamber hails cut in rail fares

Madurai, Jan. 7

The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry while welcoming the reported move to include a proposal for reduction of fares by four to eight per cent in the ensuing Railway Budget by the Union Railways Minister, said the move would immensely benefit the public. In a letter to the Union Railway Minister, Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav, the Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, further said that doubling of all railway lines and conversion to BG line and electrification, sho uld receive due consideration of the Ministry. All trains must stop further by one minute to enable loading of parcels. ‘Janatha Meals’ must be served in all trains. Long distance passenger trains must be in all routes and the ‘Tatkal’ quota for every train should not be raised from the current level, he added. —
