Kochi Port unions’ ire over curbs

Our Bureau

Kochi, Jan. 7 The Joint Forum of Trade Unions in Cochin Port Trust has expressed resentment over the recent actions of the Port Chairman, which they claimed would disrupt trade union activities in the port.

The protests of the unions came in the wake of recent inspection by the Chairman at the office of Cochin Port Staff Association and questioning, Mr Thomas Sebastian, General Secretary of the Union, for being present there during working hours.

CPSA in a statement issued here pointed out that the office-bearers of the union are carrying out union activities after completing their assigned work at the workplace. This practice is in vogue in all organisations, including major ports.

The Joint Forum of Trade Unions in the port also condemned the action of the Chairman and threatened to resort to industrial action against the “denial of trade union rights” to port workers.
