Policy Industry & Economy - Textiles States - Andhra Pradesh AP moots centres of excellence in textiles, services
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 7 The Andhra Pradesh Government has mooted to set up centres of excellence in textiles, services and animation on the lines of National Academy of Construction (NAC). Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, has mooted the centres as part of the Government plan to provide one million jobs by 2009. The Government has prepared an action plan to achieve the target by 2009. “All departments put together generated 2.50 lakh jobs in 2007-08. By the end of March 2008, we will add another one lakh jobs,” a Government release said. “Several departments assured the Chief Minister that they would achieve the remaining 6.72 lakh, completing the target of one million jobs,” it said. Funds“This is in addition to the jobs secured by candidates directly from various private, corporate and public sector companies,” it said. At a review meeting attended by ministers and officials of various departments here on Monday, the Chief Minister told them that funds would not be a problem as far as training and skill upgradation were concerned. Officials made presentations about employment generation and the targets to be achieved in the next two years. Institutes of ExcellenceIn order to make the candidates employable, the Chief Minister mooted three more Institutes of Excellence on the lines of National Academy of Construction to impart specialised skilled training in specific trades and sectors. The Centres of Excellence would be State Academy of Textiles and Garments, State Academy of Service Sectors, and State Academy of Animation. The Institute of Hospitality and Hotel Management would be upgraded into a Centre of Excellence. The Jawahar Knowledge Centres would be set up in all engineering, other professional and degree colleges. Health InsuranceReviewing the activities of Aarogya Sri Health Care Trust, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for improving amenities and hygiene at all the Government hospitals. The meeting has decided to set up HIV cells in municipalities and appoint nodal officers to coordinate the activities. It was also decided to set up condom vending machines in all public toilets.
