Sugar hits lower circuit on profit booking

Mumbai, Jan. 8 It was time for profit-booking in agriculture commodity futures trading on Tuesday.

After hitting the upper circuit on Monday, sugar for January deliver on NCDEX dropped to the lower circuit of 4 per cent at Rs 1,410 per quintal on profit booking. The February sugar contract fell 3 per cent to Rs 1,445 per quintal. Sugar futures have gained Rs 150 in the last four sessions.

Guarseed fell 1.08 per cent to Rs 1,829 per quintal on profit booking.

Chilli futures, which ranged between a low of Rs 3,812 and high of Rs 4,034 on Monday, plunged 1.85 per cent to Rs 3,927 per quintal. Soyabeanand kapas remained flat at 0.85 per cent and 0.92 per cent to close at Rs 2,051 per quintal and Rs 507 per 20 kg. Cocurd was down 1.77 per cent at Rs 431 per 20 kg.

Barley gains

Barley was the only gainer at Rs 1,022 per quintal, a rise of 2.26 per cent due to lack of adequate stock. Fresh arrivals are expected in February.

On MCX, potato gained 1.3 per cent at Rs 568 per quintal on concern over the cold weather in northern India. “There are also reports of crop damage in Punjab, but the quantum of fall in production is not clear,” said an analyst.
