Bajaj car may exceed $3,000

New Delhi, Jan. 8

When Renault decided to partner with Bajaj, the plan was to develop a new ultra low-cost car that will cost about $3,000. But, contrary to that statement, Bajaj today said that the company’s focus is not on the potential price of the car. So, it is entirely possible that the car’s price at the time of launch may not be within the previously mentioned range. It will be frugally engineered and costs will be kept low, but that does not mean that we are working tow ards a price target, said Mr Rajiv Bajaj. He also mentioned that the prototype represents a design direction and the company’s ideas and expectations, but that the end product could be very different. Mr Bajaj clarified that this is not a one-lakh car and that the focus will be to create a car that has consistent quality and practicality.
