Jeya Kumar, new MphasiS CEO, Coomer is Chairman

Bangalore, Jan. 8 MphasiS, a majority owned subsidiary of Electronic Data Systems (EDS), has named Mr Jeya Kumar as its Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board.

The company also announced that Mr Michael Coomer, Executive Vice-President of EDS, Asia Pacific Region, as the Chairman of MphasiS, replacing the co-founder of the company, Mr Jerry Rao.

Mr Rao will be the Chairman of EDS’ Asia Pacific Advisory Board. He will also retain his current position as Vice-President, EDS, and General Manager for EDS, India operations.

Mr Kumar will take charge from February 1 while Mr Coomer’s appointment is with immediate effect, said a company release.

Mr Kumar, who will report directly to Mr Coomer, served as Senior Vice-President of Sun’s Services Group from 2006 to 2008 and as a member of the company’s Executive Management Group. During that period, he was responsible for Sun’s $5-billion services business with operations in more than 120 countries. Mr Kumar will be based at MphasiS’ headquarters in Bangalore. The MphasiS Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr Deepak Patel, will continue in his current role and report to Mr Kumar.
