IT cos to help in social welfare projects

Tiruchi, Jan. 9

The Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board has planned to rope in the support of information technology companies to adopt villages and village schools, its Chairperson, Ms A. Rokkaiah Malik alias Salma, said here on Wednesday. “We have already held a few meetings with IT companies and they were agreeable to take up the projects as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives. Specific projects will be finalised soon,” she told reporters after chairing a review meeting with the representatives of voluntary organisations from Tiruchi district. Already, Hexaware Technologies has come forward to join hands with the Board to launch an awareness campaign against female foeticide and infanticide in eight districts including Theni, Dingidul, Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri and Madurai. The UNICEF has also agreed to support the initiative. A computer literacy training programme for rural women is being planned with the support of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT). —
