BSNL to offer 3G services

Kochi, Jan. 9 BSNL, Ernakulam, has geared up to provide third generation technology services with the launch of Resource Tracking and Management Services designed for corporate customers.

The RTMS service will enable the corporate customers to manage and track a fleet of vehicles, find people, track asset over the Internet through a Web interface.

The customer can also track the mobile unit and vehicles of employees.

Mr Charlie Thomas, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Ernakulam, said that the charges for RTMS services are available in slabs of requirement. If a customer wants to track one vehicle or assets in a group, the monthly rental is Rs 60.

For managing vehicles from 2 to 10, the rental is Rs 400; for vehicles numbering 11 to 25, the rental is Rs 1,000 and for more than 1,000 vehicles, the rental is Rs 50,000. Charge per location query is 10 paise and charge per SMS to vehicle from Web portal is 30 paise.

Requirements

He said that the recently launched third generation CDMA 3-G through Evolution Data Only (EVDO) technology will help customer access high-speed (up to 2 mbps) wireless Internet.

The hardware requirements included a PC with Java Virtual Machine, an Internet connection and a BSNL cell phone connection.

A user name and a password and the site ID will be given to the subscriber for this service.

He said that the telephone density in Kerala is more than double the national average.
