Mumbai, Jan 9 Cement major ACC has reported a 4.24 per cent fall in production to 1.58 million tonnes (mt) in December against 1.65 mt logged in the same period last year. Dispatches dipped 5.98 per cent to 1.57 mt (1.67 mt) in December. The company attributed the fall in production to temporary shutdown of few units for maintenance and repair work. However, cumulative cement despatches of ACC during the calendar year 2007 (January to December 2007) were 19.88 mt, which represents a gro wth of 6.2 per cent as compared to last year. Meanwhile, the Aditya Birla group’s cement production in December was up 4.13 per cent to 2.61 mt, while dispatches were up 7.66 per cent at 2.7 mt. Ambuja Cement has registered a five per cent rise in production to 1.47 mt in December against 1.38 mt recorded last year. Dispatches were up 7 per cent at 1.48 mt (1.38 mt). In the calendar year 2007, Ambuja cement production was up 3 per cent to 1.68 mt (1.63 mt).
