Rlys loadings up 8% in Apr-Dec ’07

New Delhi, Jan. 10 Robust growth in iron ore, coal and cement loadings during the past few months has helped the Indian Railways register an eight per cent growth for April-December 2007 period on a year-on-year basis.

Indian Railways carried 571.40 million tonnes (mt) of freight traffic during the first nine months of the current financial year 2007-08, up 8.23 per cent against the corresponding period last fiscal, said an official release. During December 2007, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 70.03 mt compared to 63.56 mt carried during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 10.18 per cent.
