New Delhi, Jan. 10 The board of Airports Authority of India (AAI) has given in-principle approval for converting the Delhi-based National Institute of Aviation Management and Research (NIAMAR) into a society.

Official sources told Business Line that the board decision would facilitate making NIAMAR a self sustaining organisation independent of AAI. At the moment, NIAMAR conducts management development programmes in various fields of aviation including operations, cargo, engineering, IT, security and human resource management. It is also accredited with the International Air Transport Association to conduct courses on dangerous goods regulations.

The board decision is also expected to help the centre which has to be shifted from its current location near the airport as the area is required for the proposed modernisation programme at the airport.
