Call to take up sericulture activities

Karur, Jan. 10 The Karur District Collector, Mr T.N. Venkatesh, has urged the farmers to take up sericulture activities such as silkworm rearing and mulberry cultivation utilising the government-sponsored subsidy-cum-loan schemes.

Around 205 farmers have taken up mulberry cultivation in over 278.25 acres in Karur district. As regards the subsidy schemes, the Government has given Rs 1,500 as subsidy for procuring mulberry saplings, Rs 27,500 for establishing silkworm rearing centre spread over 800 sq.ft. and Rs 60,000 for establishing a centre measuring 1,500 sq.ft—
