Economy States - Andhra Pradesh AP’s revenue earners fail to meet targets
Shortfall in stamps and registration department was attributed to the slump in registrations in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. The department wants the State to revise the basic value of land in various towns to realistic rates. Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 11 All the major revenue earning Departments in Andhra Pradesh — stamps and registration, commercial taxes, excise and transport departments — have registered revenues short of the targets set for the first nine months of the financial year. The stamps and registration department registered collections of Rs 2,598 crore as against the target of Rs 3,214.70 crore in the first three quarters of the year. It was 80.82 per cent of the target. The shortfall in collections in this Department was attributed to the slump in registrations in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. Falling shortThe commercial taxes department has registered collections to the tune of Rs 13,847 crore as against the target of Rs 14,673 crore (up to December 2007), achieving 94.37 per cent of the target. The excise department achieved 94 per cent of the target (Rs 3,039 crore) by registering revenues of Rs 2,871 crore during the period. The transport department too fell short of the targeted collections by six percentage points. It registered collections of Rs 1,149 crore as against the target of Rs 1,224.15 crore. ‘Meet targets’The mines and minerals department, however, has almost achieved the target by earning Rs 1,065.69 crore as against the target of Rs 1,080.47 crore up to December 2007. Reviewing the financial performance of these departments, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked the officials of the respective departments to regain the lost ground in the last quarter. Officials of the stamps and registration department had appealed to the Government to direct various land auctioning agencies such as Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation to complete the registration process of the properties sold. They also wanted the Government to revise the basic value of land in various towns to realistic rates. More Stories on : Economy | Andhra Pradesh
