Punjab Govt, Naandi Foundation sign MoU
Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Jan. 11 The Punjab Government has invited Naandi Foundation to provide clean drinking water to the people in Gidderbaha tehsil.
Mr Vikas Garg, Deputy Commissioner of the tehsil, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dr Reddy’s-promoted foundation in this regard.
The Naandi Foundation will join hands with Tata Projects for sourcing the reverse osmosis (RO) technology for the 3.22 crore project. It will set up RO plants in 53 villages in the tehsil.
Benefiting people
“This project will benefit more than two lakh people,” Mr Manoj Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, said here in a press release.
“Water samples collected in villages showed high incidence of fluoride, nitrates and total dissolved solids,” he pointed out.
Seeing Naandi’s effort to address a similar problem in Andhra Pradesh, the Punjab Government asked the Foundation to replicate the model there.
The community-based safe drinking water model is a collaborative arrangement between the village, Foundation and the district administration. People will pay a nominal fee for sourcing safe water.
