Management fest at IIM-K inaugurated

Our Bureau

Kochi, Jan. 11 The management festival of IIM-K, Backwaters, was inaugurated on Friday. The flagship event of Backwaters 08, the Reliance White Knight, which is conceptually unique across all B-School fests in the country, also got under way.

Now into its second year, Reliance White Knight hopes to bring together the best minds of the country to solve some of the nation’s most pressing problems. It will focus on discussions around the theme ‘Urban Development’.

Business plan

The participants are expected to tackle problems associated with the burgeoning urban settlements in India. Students from leading B-Schools would be asked to work on a business plan that will help alleviate some of the problems facing India’s urban development.

Prizes

A foreign B-School is part of the finalists and is also poised to make a presentation. Apart from the glory of being crowned the champions, the winning team shall take home a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh with an equal amount held in trust by IIM-K and released to an NGO as and when the idea gets into implementation mode.

Media contest

SAB ka Bheja Fry, a media contest in collaboration with Sony Entertainment Television, will churn out new ideas for innovative shows for Sony Entertainment Network’s youth channel, SAB.

Participants will work with a detailed brief about the channel and are expected to come up with ideas that the company would look to implement in its forth-coming shows.

Backwaters this year also features a new business simulation game, spread across all verticals and organised in collaboration with Gold Simulations, a US-based firm.

While the simulation will give an opportunity for participants to apply their classroom concepts to the real world, a mega online treasure-hunt has also been organised to keep them guessing throughout December.
