Events States - Andhra Pradesh National meet on oil palm Vijayawada, Jan. 11 A national conference on oil palm will be held here from February 2 to February 4 by the Society for Promotion of Oil Palm Research and Development (SOPOPRAD) in association with the National Research Centre for Oil Palm under the Ministry of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture. Dr P. Rethinam, President of the society, said here in a press release that resource persons from Malaysia, Indonesia, France and Thailand would attend the conference and give advice to farm ers. “At present, oil palm is being cultivated in nine states of the country, with Andhra Pradesh heading the list (50,000 hectares). West Godavari district in particular is doing very well,” he said. He said oil palm held the key to farmers’ prosperity as well as edible oil security.
