S-E Rly revenue at Rs 536 cr in Apr-Dec

Kolkata, Jan 11 During the first nine months (i.e. April to December) of 2007-08, the South Eastern Railway has carried 139 million passengers generating a revenue of Rs 536 crore.

The growth in passenger earnings has been 12.3 per cent compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Of the 139 million passengers, 65 million were suburban and 74 million were non-suburban passengers. In all, 1,22,244 passengers without tickets or with improper tickets were fined and 5,68,007 unbooked luggage cases were detected. The Railway earned Rs 4.2 crore from ticketless travellers and Rs 26 crore from unbooked luggage cases during the period, says a press release.
