HC contempt notice to Biman Bose, 2 others

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata, Jan 11 A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court comprising the Chief Justice, Mr S.S. Nijjar, and Mr Justice P.C. Ghose on Friday directed the Registrar General of High Court to serve criminal contempt notice on Mr Biman Bose, Chairman of the West Bengal Left Front Government; Mr Binay Konar and Mr Shyamal Chakraborty, the CPI(M) State Committee members, and the CITU leaders for their alleged comments over the court’s order passed on November 16, 2007, directing the CBI to investigate the police firing of March 14, 2007 at Nandigram.

The matters have been fixed after two weeks. The Calcutta High Court Bar Association and Bar Library Club filed the petition of contempt against the three leaders. The BJP State Secretary too had filed a similar petition.
