This was finalised at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the State Chief Minister, Mr Pu Zoramthanga.
Mr Ahluwalia lauded the efforts of the State in speeding up infrastructure development and singled out road transport, power in physical infrastructure and education and health in social infrastructure.
He urged the State to explore horticulture and floriculture sectors.
He said all districts in the State would be covered under the National Rural Employment Guarantee programme from next year.
Infrastructure
Members broadly endorsed the efforts at establishing health infrastructure in the State but said that more efforts would be made to fill gap in trained teachers and doctors. They also drew the attention of the State’s authorities to the dwindling forest cover in the area.
The Chief Minister said that the priorities of the Eleventh Plan as well as holistic development have been kept in view while formulating the annual Plan of the State. He said the State was facing food crisis as no harvesting could be done because of bamboo flowering.
To cope with the famine-like situation arising as a result of bamboo flowering, the State Government is seeking additional help under the NREG scheme in enhancing agricultural production and developing rural infrastructure, he pointed out.
