Supply Chain Management Web Extras - Software ‘Market for supply chain management solutions growing’ Our Bureau Chennai, Jan. 11 Increase in logistics cost is forcing companies to spend more on supply chain management (SCM) software solutions. A few years ago, the logistics cost used to be around 15 per cent of revenue for many companies, but is now around 25 per cent, said Mr Jasbir Singh, Senior Director, SCM Applications, Oracle Asia-Pacific. Clients have begun to focus beyond ERP (enterprise resource planning) to improving SCM using technology. For instance, fuel cost has gone up substantially leading to increase in transport cost, he told newspersons. Quoting the research company Gartner, Mr Singh said the market for SCM software solution in Asia Pacific was around $350 million in 2007, and is likely to grow at 11 per cent this year. The Indian market for SCM solutions was estimated to be around $35 million in 2007, and will cross $50 million this year, Mr Prabhakar Shetty, Head, Supply Chain and Logistics, Satyam Computer Services. The Hyderabad-based software company is a partner to implement SCM solution of Oracle for various clients.
According to Mr Singh, with Oracle SCM, companies can integrate and automate critical processes from supply chain planning to execution, manufacturing and collaboration with external parties, including vendors and distributors. The solution enables clients to manage their asset lifecycle, product lifecycle and centralise production information management. All these information were available within the company, but in ‘silos,’ he said. In India, Oracle SCM is used by companies such as Hindalco, JSW Steel, Cummins India, Hikal and AVTEC, says a company press release. More Stories on : Supply Chain Management | Software
