Hyderabad, Jan. 11
As part of its plan to revive a few fertiliser plants across the country keeping in mind the shortage of fertilisers, the Union Government has given in-principle nod to revive the plant at Ramagundam in Andhra Pradesh.
“The Centre has agreed to spend Rs 3,500 crore up to 2011 to revive the plant,” said Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, State Minister for Agriculture.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said the State Government had also brought to the notice of Centre the short supply of complex fertilisers.
“The Centre has not been monitoring the supply of complex fertilisers for the last so many years.
“Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, has requested them to look into the issue the way they do it for DAP. They have accepted,” he said.
Raw material
Mr Reddy said sharp increase in the raw material, which needed to be imported, had resulted in the short supply.
“Due to this problem, some plants have either cut down on their capacities or shut down a few units,” he said.
