Canadian help sought in gold, diamond exploration

New Delhi, Jan. 11 The Minister of State for Mines, Mr T. Subbarami Reddy, has requested the visiting Canadian Government officials for the transfer of technology for exploration and mining of gold and diamonds.

“We have urged the visiting Canadian delegation led by Ms Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, to help us in unearthing the huge resources of gold and diamonds in the country over the next five years to which the delegation has responded positively,” Mr Reddy said here on Friday.

He also said that the Canadian delegation has assured to expedite the supply of helicopter with modern state of air-borne technology to Geological Survey of India for exploration of mineral wealth of the nation.

The other members of the delegation include Mr Harinder Taklhar, Ontario Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship; Mr Fareed Amin, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade; Mr Bill Forward, Assistant Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade and Ms Shirley Townsend, Counsellor – (Commercial – Ontario), Canadian High Commission.

“I have also requested the delegation to train Indian geo-scientists in Canada and also depute a team of Canadian experts in mining technology to train their Indian counterparts,” he said.
