Outlook Marketing - Trends TVS expects higher sales next fiscal
Riding high: Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, addressing a press conference in the Capital on Saturday. — Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 12 Led by new launches and increase in exports, TVS Motor on Saturday said that despite the industry estimated to remain stagnant in the next fiscal, the company expected sales to increase to 1.7 million units, up from its estimate of 1.4 million units by the end of the current fiscal. “We are expecting a flat growth in Q4 of the current fiscal. But we are looking at a sale of 1.7 million units including exports,” said Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company. He said that despite a 15 per cent decline till the third quarter of the fiscal, the company expected an increase in sales with the launch of one scooter and two bikes – a fuel injection variant of Apache and Flame. TVS would also be launching three variants of its three-wheelers in both LPG and CNG versions. The 125 CC Flame that is being launched nationwide by next month, despite the tussle over patent infringement with Bajaj, is estimated to clock sales of 40,000 units in the quarter ended March 2008. Entry level segmentTalking about the market for entry level bikes, which its competitior Bajaj claims has been declining as against the premium category, Mr Srinivasan said: “The market for above 200 cc is less than 5 per cent of the overall motorcycles market and is very niche. While the entry level segment is declining, the market will continue to exist in rural areas and in the outskirts of the cities where consumers may not be willing to pay more.” The company, which has been posting a 40 per cent average growth in exports, is targeting to expand its presence in the overseas market to 100 countries from the present 40 over the next three-four years. The company has already commenced production at its Indonesian facility and is looking to launch two more vehicles there. Apart from its 110 cc Neo, it would also launch 125 cc and 150 cc two-wheelers over the next 18 months. Overall the company expects to sell 75,000 units in the Indonesian market by next year, added Mr Srinivasan.
