KSEB projects Rs 755-cr revenue gap this fiscal

Mony K. Mathew

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 13The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has projected a revenue gap of Rs 754.69 crore for 2008-09.

In its application to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) on Aggregate Revenue Requirements (ARR) and Expected Revenue from Charges (ERC), the Board has stated that the aggregate revenue requirement for the year is Rs 5,734.03 crore.

The non-tariff income has been put at Rs 528.27 crore and the revenue at current charges at Rs 4,292.59 crore. Besides, the revenue from sale of surplus energy is expected at Rs 158.54 crore, leaving a revenue gap of Rs 754.69 crore.

The Board has said in its application to SERC that proposals for bridging the revenue gap involve policy decisions at the Government level, which needs some more time. The Board will write separately to the Government on the ways to bridge the gap.

Meanwhile, the Board has revised the ARR and ERC for 2007-08 and the revenue gap has been put at Rs 251.03 crore instead of the original estimate of Rs 430.11 crore.
