Kolkata, Jan. 16

Mr B.K. Birla on Tuesday announced a donation of Rs 2 crore as immediate help to those affected by the devastating fire in the Burrabazar area of the city recently. The announcement was made on the spot when Mr Birla, accompanied by his wife, Ms Sarla Birla, and other members of his family, visited the fire-ravaged site and was distressed to see the plight of many traders who had lost almost everything in the fire. Mr Birla also appealed to others industrialists to come forward to help and many of them responded promptly, it is learnt. - Our Bureau
