Reservation policy

Serious thought must be given to the recruitment policy in the country as those with vested interests are using that as a plank to resort to agitation.

The recent railway recruitment in Bangalore is a classic example. Caste/religion-based reservations were introduced to uplift the economically downtrodden and weaker sections of society and reduce economic disparity, when the Constitution was introduced.

There is a need to revamp the recruitment system and provide reservation on the basis of educational qualifications and capability rather than on caste/ religion considerations. Also, reservation based on geographical considerations for lower category jobs could improve the quality of life and reduce poverty.
