EEPC targets $30-b exports

Mumbai, Jan. 17 Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), the apex body of engineering exporters from India, is targeting $30 billion exports of engineering goods and services during the current fiscal.
Addressing the EEPC Western Region Award Function for 2005-06, Mr Nayan Shah, Regional Chairman of the council, said engineering exports touched $27 billion so far during the year, against the target of $24 billion.
Mr Ashok Chavan, Minister of Industry & Mines and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, presented the awards for excellence in exports.

Mr Aman Chadha, Vice-Chairman of the Council, said that engineering exports today account for 21 per cent of India’s total exports. The western region accounted for 40 per cent of India’s total engineering exports.
Sixty-four companies from the region were awarded for their export performance. The list included some of the leading names such as Tata Motors and Thermax Ltd.
EEPC, set up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India in 1955, has a membership of nearly 15,000.
