Arts & Crafts States - Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts sourcing show from today Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 17 The Development Commissioner of Handicrafts (Southern Region), Government of India, and Andhra Pradesh Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd (APHDC) are jointly organising the annual ‘Handicrafts Sourcing Show’ here between January 18 and 27. The show, to be held at the Nizam College Grounds, will have stalls put up by over 200 distinguished artists and artisans drawn from across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, Mr B. Jayaraj, Managing Director, APHDC told newspersons here on Thursday. Buyer-seller meetAccording to Mr P. Sundarmurthi, Deputy Director, office of the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, Chennai, said for the first time the annual show would feature a buyer-seller meet focussing on promoting handicrafts exports. The last year’s show organised at Chennai generated sales of over Rs 10 lakh. “But this year, we are expecting that business worth Rs 1 crore would be done here,” he said. The handicrafts exports has grown from Rs 5,058 crore in 1998-99 to Rs 17,300 crore during 2006-07 with the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and West Asian countries being the main markets.
