Codissia centre phase II nearing completion

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Jan 17 Seven years after completing the first phase of the Codissia Intec Technology Centre (Cointec), at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association mooted the phase II expansion plans. The second phase is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated on January 20.

The expansion, estimated to cost Rs 25 crore, is being funded by SIDBI.

This inauguration has been timed just prior to the Intec Fair, slated between February 1 and 6.

The built-up area under Phase II – comprising two halls (one air-conditioned and the other air-cooled), a food court and an entry plaza of about 2.17 lakh sq ft, takes the total area (built-up) under phase I and II to 3.62 lakh sq ft.

This infrastructure is coming up on the 39.2 acres Trade Fair Complex Ground. The promoters have allocated seven acres (in the rear) for car parking and another three acres for the proposed convention centre.

While the promoters got the phase I completed in a record time of 155 days, they plan to get this done in 144 days. The construction work on the phase II commenced in July.

Sharing details, the Cointec President, Mr R. Palaniswami, said about 800 men were working round the clock to complete the work within the set time-frame.

Phase I comprised three halls – A, B and C, while phase II would comprise two – D and E. Each of the new halls would have a seating capacity of 2,500-3,000, with additional dining space for 700.

The entire complex is being given a facelift, he added.
